What is Dark Fibre?
It’s essentially a strand of ”unlit” unused fibre within a larger cable bundle owned by a network operator. Dark fibre is completely unmanaged with no services activated, giving you the choice of equipment used to light up the fibre and what capacity is achieved. The equipment will be co-located in a secure location with uninterruptable power and fire suppression. This solution is point to point and can be grouped together to provide longer or aggregated links.
What are the benefits of Dark Fibre?
There are a number of benefits of having dark fibre within your network estate, essentially it’s taking control of the layer 1 network and administering your own security policies. It can also be used to aggregate bandwidth to reduce the cost of your leased lines, perfect for retail, FTTP & fixed wireless providers.
The added benefits are the use of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, or DWDM for short. This uses multiple individual wavelengths across the spectrum enabling greater capacity. Perfect for multi-media or large data consumers. The current transceivers we source offer the following capacities.
Can i connect to the internet with this solution?
Not as standard, this solution provides a dedicated and private link between two locations. To connect to the internet, a internet connection with an IP transit provider or exchange will need to be established. What is needed to get started?
Getting started is very easy and we’ll just need the postcodes for each end. Our team will perform a desktop based survey free of charge to determine what network assets are available in both locations. In some instances, we can use our own
How do i pay?
We accept credit and debt cards, direct debit and bank transfer.
Is the quotation free?
Yes, 100%. We will perform the desktop research within a few days which should highlight any issues. At any stage before accepting the formal quotation, you are able to opt out and waslk away without charge.
Once the formal quotation has been accepted, we will inspect the cable route and begin the installation process. There will be early terminations charges thereafter, equal to the cost of inspections, surveys and installation. If the service has commence, the early termination is subject to the 36 month contract, which may apply.
